People

People

I see people, walking by the water,
Holding hands and telling stories,
Young couples basking in their romance
And old people walking their dogs

Some live in the neighborhood
And have stopped noticing the trees
Others are just visiting
And marvel at the green

Oh how beautiful it gets in winter
When the snows covers the benches
And the river freezes for a few days
And the ducks huddle along the edge

But little do we know
The trees and the river and the ducks
And the grass and the dogs
Have their own story playing out

In their world we are visitors too
Changing by the seasons
Calm one day and stormy the next
In love and despair, careful and free

Just as one necessitates the other
Just as the wind moves the water
Just as the sun warms the earth
We complete each other.
