I know what he meant
When he said
May we heal the earth
At the end of the ritual

But a silent voice interjected
You are standing on the ground
You breathe my air
You ate what I grew

You heal with my plants
And plow with my children
You delight in the diversity
That I created

I will heal you
If you’d just ask
I have many ways
Too many for you to count

And if you keep hurting me
You will only hurt yourself
I have lived eons
With nothing but fire

I was hit by cosmic powers
Entities that wanted to take my place
I took my time
And I tamed them all

I dance with the sun
The moon worships me
I have secrets in my core
That you will never know

I have lost children before
I have many more
I am the eternal mother
And my spirit is strong

You want to heal me? You?
No. I gave birth to you
And I cared for you
For longer than you can remember

You think me dead
You dig and you build
And for all your inventions
I have a thousand to match

So take it easy
Learn what you can
Show some gratitude
I am not going anywhere
